Having worked on the award-winning Citrus residential development with The Bournemouth Development Company, tor&co was excited to be asked to continue our relationship as architects and town planners for the £12 million Treetops project.
The site, adjacent to the Grade 1 listed St. Stephen’s Church, was part of the Council’s vision to make Bournemouth a better place to live, work and socialise within.
Neighbouring conservation areas, the sloping topography, and surrounding protected trees meant the development had some real complexities to overcome.
An interdisciplinary tor&co team set about resolving these barriers. After detailed site consultation, in-depth discussions with multiple stakeholders including Historic England and council conservation officers, visualisations were drawn up to demonstrate that the scheme was being approached with sensitivity.
Working together we found solutions that were sympathetic to the site’s surroundings while maximising its potential, even making a feature out of the potentially problematic topography.
Now nestled within its tree lined boundary, Treetops seamlessly blends into the surroundings, providing sustainable living right in the centre of Bournemouth.
