I have been privileged to have helped to secure planning permission on many high profile and successful projects. These projects have been diverse, complex and in many cases controversial. They range from the creation of the world renowned McLaren Technology Centre, a new campus for the University Surrey and a wide range of wind, solar and low carbon energy recovery projects. Strong environmental principles and a collaborative approach continue to be the key to our success.
Tim Hancock
Having served as Managing Director from 2002, Tim became our Executive Chairman in 2020 and continues to provide expert advice to both long-standing and new clients. During this time, Tim has shaped the interdisciplinary team at tor&co, inspiring projects that have made a significant contribution to the economic and social impact of our clients’ enterprise.

Tim's Projects
University of Surrey
The removal of over 60 hectares of Guildford’s Green Belt has been one of the most controversial projects that I have worked on. This required a carefully orchestrated planning strategy over several years from reviews of the developments plans to the granting of outline planning permission for the University’s new Blackwell Park campus. Today the campus is thriving and has enabled the University to be named Times University of the Year.
McLaren
I continue to be actively involved with the iconic McLaren Campus in Woking since helping to secure the original approvals in the late 1990s. This bespoke campus has enabled the co-location and growth of the McLaren Group of companies from 350 employees in 1996 to over 3,000 today. I am tremendously proud to be associated with this sensitively designed project which has seen the creation of over 100 acres of community park and wildlife areas within the Green Belt.
Renewables
We cannot afford to wait to act against the threat of climate change. I have therefore been very keen to assist with the delivery of several low carbon energy recovery facilities, wind farms and solar farms throughout the UK. Having achieved a 100 per cent planning success rate, these projects are generating over 700MW of electricity each year and in turn saving thousands of tonnes of carbon emission. Some have been highly controversial, requiring a sensitive approach, a robust planning strategy and a thorough programme of stakeholder and community engagement to achieve successful outcomes.
